The United States - South Africa Sister Community Project linked communities in the U.S. with disadvantaged communities in South Africa looking for international assistance in their struggles. The Project linked black communities in South Africa threaten with removal or other catastrophic government action with communities in the United States. The purpose was to deter the Pretoria government from its removal plans, to help vibrant black communities to survive, and to provide a vehicle for anti-apartheid organizing in the United States. Among the cities in the U.S. that established such links were Atlanta, Georgia; Berkeley, California; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Seattle, Washington; and St. Paul, Minnesota.
