The United Coalition Against Racism (UCAR) was a student anti-apartheid organization at the University of Michigan. UCAR also operated some in the community. UCAR protested against the prejudice Black and other minority students faced on the Ann Arbor campus. In the fall of 1988 UCAR opened the Ella Baker-Nelson Mandela Center for Anti-Racist Education (BMC), an alternative educational center run by student activists and to provide the Ann Arbor and campus communities with information on the large part of history and culture that never get taught in any University classroom. UCAR published Voices of Struggle, a newsletter of anti-racist activism.
