The Twin Cities Committee for the Liberation of Southern Africa (TCCLSA) began in September 1978. The TCCLSA was a group of local residents committed to supporting the struggle of the peoples of Southern Africa for freedom and self-determination. TCCLSA opposed U.S. imperialism. The TCCLSA did general education and consciousness-raising around issues of apartheid, the independence struggles in Zimbabwe, Angola, and Namibia. TCCLSA supported both the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and the Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU) in their struggle for independence. TCCLSA sent over five tons of used clothing to Zimbabwe refugee camps in Mozambique and Zambia. TCCLSA sent medical supplies through The Africa Fund. In the 1980s TCCLSA campaigned for sanctions and divestment from companies doing business in South Africa and Namibia. TCCLSA was a member of the Minnesota Anti-Apartheid Legislative Coalition (MAALC) that supported state bills prohibited future investment of public money in banks or corporations doing business in South African and Namibia. The TCCLSA supported SWAPO (Southwest Africa People's Organization) and conducted a material aid drive to collect medical supplies for Namibian refugees.
