California Newsreel produces and distributes cutting edge social justice films that inspire, educate, and engage audiences. In 1976, California Newsreel established the Southern Africa Media Center as a project to make films - and later videotapes - about Southern Africa more widely available and to provide advice about how to use films for organizing against apartheid. The Southern Africa Media Center was a widely used source of films on southern Africa and a leading resource for deepening Americans' understanding of the struggles in southern Africa. Although the Southern Africa Media Center project no longer exists, California Newsreel maintains the Library of Africa Cinema that includes films about current issues confronting the African continent.
