Formed in September 1979, the Zimbabwe Action Campaign (ZAC) was a multi-racial campaign carried on by local groups in cities across the United States representing a broad range of occupational backgrounds and political perspectives. ZAC campaigned to put pressure on the U.S. government to end all support for the Rhodesian regime and to support the Patriotic Front in its struggle for justice in Zimbabwe. ZAC sought broad outreach designed to unite community groups, unions, campuses, churches, and others of all races behind these goals. Groups involved included: People for Southern African Freedom (Eugene, Oregon), Southern Africa Organizing Committee (San Francisco), Boston Coalition for the Liberation of Southern Africa, Seattle Southern Africa Solidarity Committee, Working Committee on Southern Africa (San Diego), and Fresno ZAC Committee.
