The South African Support Committee (SASC) was a student group at Amherst College that campaigned to get the college to divest from companies doing business in apartheid South Africa. SASC prepared a position paper on divestment, proposed a college policy to work first as a shareholder to get companies in leave South African and if this did not succeed then to divest its holdings. SASC organized a petition campaign among students and faculty to support this proposal, and held demonstrations on campus and at College Trustee meetings on campus and in Washington, DC. SASC conducted public education activities related to apartheid, U.S. policy toward South Africa and corporate investment in South Africa.
