Midwest Coalition for the Liberation of Southern Africa (Detroit)

Duration: 1984 - unknown
Location: Detroit, Michigan, United States

The Midwest Coalition for the Liberation of Southern Africa (MCLSA) was formed at a conference at Wayne State University in Detroit in November 1984. The principles of unity included support for the liberation movements, opposition to U.S. economic links to South Africa and Namibia, opposition to all forms of U.S. government support for South Africa, support for the sports, cultural and academic boycott of South Africa, and commitment to link anti-apartheid organizing to related struggles, particularly against domestic racism. The MCLSA appears to have been based in Detroit. (Source: "Report on the First Annual Midwest Conference Against Apartheid", November 2-4, 1984, American Committee on Africa, 1984)
