The Institute for Food and Development Policy, also known as Food First, was founded in 1975 by Joseph Collins and Frances Moore Lappé—author of the revolutionary bestseller Diet for a Small Planet—Food First has been working to end the injustices that cause hunger since 1975. In the 1980s Food First has launched a new campaign to awaken people to this starvation in South Africa, a land of plenty, and to build bridges between the anti-apartheid movement and the anti-hunger movement.
