The Committee for Non-Violent Action (CNVA) campaigned against the testing of nuclear weapons by the United States. It employed nonviolent direct action to protest against the nuclear arms race. In 1959 CNVA campaigned against an announce plan by France to text an atomic bomb in Algeria, then a colony of France. CNVA was sponsored by the Fellowship of Reconciliation, the Friends Committee of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the War Resisters League, and Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.
