Charlotteans for a Free Southern Africa was formed in 1985 by residents of Charlotte, North Carolina who were "concerned about the ongoing crisis in South Africa and neighboring countries." The organization sponsored a number of events, protested loans by local businesses to the South African government, and invited visits by speakers who would "share insights and information with citizens of our community."
