The African Support Committee was founded to provide aid in various forms to national liberation movements in southern Africa and developed a special relationship with the Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA). The group saw itself as socialist and anti-imperialist. It operated through four subcommittees: Aid and Promotions, Medical and Technical, Research, and Publications. The group reprinted and distributed official MPLA documents and published its own documents, as well.
