U.S. Senator Gale McGee of Wyoming holds a print given to him by Edgar Lockwood, Director of the Washington Office on Africa, in appreciation for McGee's leadership in the successful effort to repeal the Byrd Amendment that had allowed the importation into the U.S. of strategic minerals from Southern Rhodesia despite the United Nations embargo. McGee was a Democratic member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Congress repealed the Byrd Amendment in March 1977.
