Demonstration in front of the White House to protest the scheduled execution on June 9 of the Moroka Three. The Moroka Three, Simon Mogoerane, Jerry Semano Mosololi, and Marcus Thabo Motaung, were members of the African National Congress (ANC). On August 6, 1982 they were sentenced to death for separate attacks at the Moroka and Orlando Police stations in Soweto and the Wonderboom Police station in Pretoria in which four policemen were killed. This demonstration was part of an international campaign to save their lives. The demonstrators called on President Reagan to urge the South African government to stop the execution. The three were executed on June 9, 1983. The person in the photograph with a white shirt is Kenneth Zinn of the Washington Office on Africa (WOA). WOA and maybe other organizations sponsored the demonstration.
