Some 100 demonstrators in New York City protested NBC-TV's decision to televise the World Boxing Association’s heavyweight boxing match between Black American John Tate and white South African Gerrie Coetzee held on October 20 in South Africa in violation of a sports boycott of racist South Africa. The demonstration in New York was coordinated by the American Committee on Africa (ACOA) and the American Coordinating Committee for Equality in Sport and Society (ACCESS). There were campaigns and protests at a number of NBC affiliates in different cities including Boston, Chicago and Denver.
