It was agreed to set up a special account for the Gilchrists, into which to deposit funds toward the day when Dr. Gilchrist will no longer be working for Emergency Relief to Angola (ERA). • 2. It was agreed that the staff could consider transferring the Defense and Aid account to another bank if Chase Manhattan, in violation of its agreement when our account was first established there, insists on a service charge. • 3. Discussion of "Strategy on South Africa" included only a few of the 12 items. • 4. Discussed plans for Tenth Anniversary, including a special anniversary issue of "Africa Today"; testimonials to the work of the Committee had been received from Governor-General Azikiwe, Vice-President Kawawa, Tom Mboya, Oliver Tambo, Kenneth Kaunda, and others. • 5. The next Steering Committee meeting was set for September 10 • Dan Bernstein agreed to explore buying stock in the American-South African Investment Trust so that questions about US investments in South Africa could be raised at stockholder meetings. The minutes discuss an informational and action bulletin on Southern Africa, the Portuguese territories, demonstrations against companies doing significant business with South Africa, Peter Weiss, David Jones, George Houser, and James Jones.
