The pamphlet says Sudan, the largest country in Africa, has had only brief intervals without war since the four decades since its independent in 1956. The pamphlet says that Sudan has proved one of the continent's most persistent humanitarian crises and that it is currently ruled by a military regime which has suppressed opposition in the north as well as carried on a brutal counterinsurgency campaign in the south.
