Action Alert: "Don't Feed the Wild Geese"
by South African Military Refugee Aid Fund, American Committee on Africa
New York, New York, United States
This leaflet is about the film The Wild Geese, a film fictionalizing the role of mercenaries in the Congo during the 1960s but revolves around the actual adventures of "Mad Mike" Hoare on behalf of Moise Tshombe's attempted secession from the Congo. The film is based on a book by Daniel Carney who served in the Rhodesian security forces. The leaflet notes that foreign mercenaries make up an estimated 50% of whites in the Rhodesian security forces. The film was shot in the Northern Transvaal area of South Africa and the South African Defence Force and the Police collaborated in the production of the film. The leaflet urges people to leaflet and picket showings of the film.
