Type: Memorandum
Coverage in Africa: South Africa, Southern Africa
Coverage outside Africa: United States
Language: English
The memorandum says the Tenth Anniversary of the massacre at Sharpeville is an opportunity to assess past actions and chart a course for the future. Apartheid, Portuguese colonialism, and Rhodesian racism continue to thrive, though now engaged by armed freedom fighters throughout southern Africa. U.S. multi-national corporations continue to invest there – and to reap profits. A new pamphlet, Southern Africa, represents a new direction for the Africa Research Group. It is the first of a series written for community groups and individuals with little academic interest in Africa, but who want to learn more about their brothers and sisters struggling in Africa. The memorandum says we hope to expand our audience and hope the pamphlet will be distributed among high school students, community college students, and others whose interest might be aroused.
