The fundraising letter invites people to the 17th Annual Dinner and focuses on the HAITI EDUCATION CAMPAIGN. TransAfrica Executive Director Randall Robinson began a fast on April 12 to bring media attention to the plight of Haitian refugees. At the Annual Dinner, Arthur R. Ashe, Jr. will posthumously receive the African Freedom Award. Actress Phylicia Rashad will host the affair at the Washington Hilton Hotel, which we expect will attract more than 2,500 guests. Congresswoman Maxine Waters will be the keynote speaker, and The Congressional Black Caucus will receive a special honorary award. A closed Roundtable Discussion focused on restoration of democracy in Haiti and the return of President Aristide will follow TransAfrica's 13th Annual Foreign Policy Conference Luncheon at the Dirksen Senate Office Building. President Aristide will be a speaker at the luncheon. The mailing says a full-page ad we ran in The New York Times is enclosed that challenges Clinton administration failures on Haiti and calls for citizen support for political action. We also look back to many years of intensive struggle for freedom in South Africa, where crucial work still lies ahead.
