Copy of a letter to Fred McNair, United States Davis Cup Team at the Newport Beach Tennis Club. The Committee for Stop the Davis Cup Match has organized a demonstration to protest South Africa's participation in the Davis Cup match. A position statement explains that, so long as South Africa continues to exclude individuals from fully participating in sports at all levels of competition on the basis of race, South African national teams should not be permitted to compete in international matches. By allowing the South Africans to play in the Davis Cup, the United States Tennis Association is endorsing South Africa's racist sports policies. A small delegation from our committee would like to meet with you and your teammates to discuss your reasons for playing and to explain your position.
