Washington, DC, United States
Contents: ESSAY CONTEST • POSTER PROJECT / METRO PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS • WOAEF MAILING LIST • RESOURCES • Preliminary research was conducted about a high school essay contest in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area (including Montgomery County, Prince George's County, and Fairfax County). WOAEF Board member Dr. Robert Cummings and Project Coordinator Lisa Crooms discussed the contest, and it was decided to postpone it until the 1986-7 academic year. A database for the WOAEF mailing list will be ready for a fall promotional mailing. Numerous new resources created by WOAEF were reported on. The newest one is the Free Namibia Packet, written by Randy Nunnullee and edited by WOA Board member Raleigh Deffenbaugh, Doug Tilton, Damu Smith, and Lisa Crooms. Street Sheet, a one page resource produced for the Africa Peace Tour in April, was researched and written by WOAEF staff and produced by the WOA. Mary White, a spring semester intern, prepared drafts of four fact sheets on African National Congress (ANC), United Democratic Front (UDF), Women in the Struggle for Liberation: Winnie Mandela, Albertina Sisulu, and Fatima Meer, and ANC Leadership: Nelson Mandela, Chief Albert Luthuli, and Walter Sisulu. Fact sheets addressing Education and Employment Opportunities for Women Under Apartheid and Angola and UNITA have been completed. The passbooks were reprinted for the Churches Emergency Committee on Southern Africa. The document mentions Matthew Nicely, and Jacki Wilson.
