by Chicago-Alexandra Sister Community Project, Chicago Committee in Solidarity with Southern Africa
Chicago, Illinois, United States
Undated, April or early May 1991
Invitation by the Chicago-Alexandra Sister Community Project with the Chicago Committee in Solidarity with South Africa, the Mozambique Support Network, Free South Africa, the 8th Day Center for Justice, the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid and Synapses to a welcoming reception for Margaret Mashabela, Vice-President of the Alexandra Women’s Caucus and Mzwanele Mayekiso, Organizing Officer of the Alexandra Civic Organization at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago on May 10, 1991. The invitation says Margaret and Mzwanele will speak on the current situation in Alexandra and in South Africa; they have been actively involved in the grass-roots struggle for democracy in the townships through the Alexandra Civic Organization; they will be visiting Chicago for six weeks. The invitation says Alexandra is a township outside Johannesburg; along with other Civic originations, the ACO has been instrumental in replacing the apartheid government-imposed town council with genuinely representative, locally-based organizations. [Note: The phone number on the leaflet is for Synapese.]
