CAMPUS ACTIVISM FOR JUSTICE: From Southern Africa to Michigan

Summary program of two-day event to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the decision by the Michigan State University (MSU) Board of Trustees to divest MSU's holdings in companies operating in South Africa. Program included Somadoda Fikeni, PhD, who came from South Africa to participate in the conference, and Phumzile Mazibuko, South Africa's Consul General in Chicago. Three panels focused on 1960s activism at MSU, Divestment from Apartheid South Africa: MSU & the Michigan Legislature, and Contemporary Student Activism at MSU. The African Activist Archive Project provided slide shows of images of activism at MSU and at the Michigan Capitol in Lansing.
