Two resolutions on South Africa brought before the Northern California Ecumenical Council (NCEC). The resolution on 10 Key U.S. corporations was originated by The Peace and Justice Commission; resource people are Mary Huenik of ICCR and John Lind of California/Nevada ICCR. The resource for the resolution on the Shell Boycott is WITNESS for South Africa and its staff, Miloanne Hecathorn. Background information includes Conditions in South Africa and a Biblical and Theological reflection excerpted from "Challenge to the Church” (the Kairos document), South African Council of Churches (SACC) resolution on divestment at 1985 general conference, NCEC Precedents, and a press release from the United Church of Christ about the May 20, 1985 “Statement on American Corporations Which Are Key to Apartheid” signed originally by 53 religious leaders and organized by the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR). The packet also includes postcards supporting ICCR’s call for withdrawal from South Africa to send to the CEOs of Burroughs Corporation, Control Data, and IBM.
