STEERING COMMITTEE MINUTES
by American Committee on Africa
New York, New York, United States
Undated, sometime after June 26, 1961
The minutes say George Houser made suggestions for the re-organization, possible campaigns and program, and staff requirements for program or projects, literature, and fund-raising. It was decided that ACOA should continue to publish Africa Today and its supplementary literature program. It was decided that “the projects or program director would be a Negro.” Also, it was generally felt that hiring a fund-raiser and public relations staff member was imperative. The meeting minutes mention possible composition of personnel committee (Donald Harrington, Farrell Jones, Stanley Levison, Adelaide Schulking, Hope Stevens, and Peter Weiss), Nelson Bengston, Elizabeth Landis, Frank Montero, William Scheinman, Dale Harrison, and Suzanne Seidman.
