Liberation Support Movement
The pamphlet consists of a interview by Boubaker Adjali with Marcelino dos Santos, Vice President of Frelimo - the Mozambique Liberation Front. The interview was taped in French for the Liberation Support Movement in a liberated zone of Northern Mozambique. The English translation and some minor editing have been done by the LSM. Dos Santos was a founding member of Frelimo and of CONCP (Conference of Nationalist Organizations of the Portuguese Colonies) and was CONCP’s first general secretary in 1961. Adjali, an Algerian militant and member of the FLN during Algeria's war of independence, was an appointed member of Ben Bella's Revolutionary Council in charge of information and propaganda. In the interview, dos Santos talks about the armed struggle against Portuguese colonialism, developments in the liberated areas, and NATO members’ support of Portugal. Dos Santos discusses Angola and MPLA, Guinea-Bissau and PAIGC, Zimbabwe and ZAPU, Namibia and SWAPO, and South Africa and ANC. In the interview, dos Santos discusses the OAU (Organization of African Unity); economic links between the liberated areas and Tanzania; and an upcoming Rome conference called by Frelimo, MPLA ,and PAIGC. The main goal of the Rome Conference is to raise material support. The second goal is to bring pressure on the governments of the Western powers (France, Italy, England, Belgium, Holland, the USA and West Germany) to withdraw their support from Portugal. [Note: This pamphlet was produced in Richmond, B.C. Canada but was widely distributed in the United Sates. At the time. Adjali lived in the United States.]
