The newsletter says the forced recruitment of children for combat has become a part of daily life in Mozambique. The newsletter says spokesmen for the Mozambique post office have told AIM they are deeply concerned that letters and packages sent from abroad to Mozambique via South Africa are systematically opened in that country. The newsletter reports that Melissa Wells, the American Ambassador to Maputo, visited Mozambique refugees in Nanhokwe and Tengani. The newsletter says the European Campaign Against South African Aggression on Mozambique and Angola (ECASAAMA) held a large solidarity conference in Bonn; of great interest was Western support to Angola's UNITA and to Renamo. The newsletter includes a quote from Jorge Rebelo. The newsletter discusses the Mozambique National Resistance (MNR), European Economic Community (EEC), Dr. Leonardo Simao, President Joaquim Chissano, Dr. Aniceto Muchangos, Cornelius Greyling, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), President Pieter Botha, Gustavo Malhope, Prexy Nesbitt, Terre Rybovitch, Stephanie Urdang, Tracy Matthews, the American Friends Service Committee, and Jerry Herman. The newsletter includes articles reprinted from Action for Children, Vol. III, No. 4, 1988 and Mozambiquefile, February 1989.
