Letter to Oregon State University (OSU) President Robert MacVicar commending him for his recent refusal to support Coach Dale Thomas' planned trip to South Africa with the OSU wrestling team. The letter says Coach Thomas' attempt to arrange the tour was extremely irresponsible, as have been his other sporting connections with South Africa. The letter says Coach Thomas attempted to portray the wrestlers as mere individuals, not as official OSU representatives. The South African regime nevertheless would have reaped considerable publicity benefits from the tour, and the wrestlers’ athletic careers could have suffered serious damage. The letter discusses Thomas' past ties to South Africa and the Oregon Wrestling Cultural Exchange. The letter questions Thomas’ value to OSU if he persists with these policies.
