On the fourth anniversary of the Soweto uprising, this statement was presented to Mayor Tom Bradley opposing South Africa’s plan to open a consulate in Los Angeles. It points out that the United Nations has declared apartheid a crime against humanity. It also notes that Los Angeles is a sister city with Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, and that the South African military has violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Zambia. The statement asks Mayor Bradley to convey to the State Department that he will use all his power to prevent the opening of the consulate.
