[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: IBM]
by Committee on Southern Africa
Binghamton, New York, United States
October 2, 1979
A press release on IBM in South Africa says IBM computers are used to support and maintain the system of apartheid. It notes that users of IBM computers include the Department of Interior, National Education and Prisons, the Nation Institute of Defense, and the Atomic Energy Board. The press release says IBM bid for - but lost - the contract to supply computers for the passbook system. The press release says the Committee on Southern Africa joins with many other groups, including IBM Workers United, in calling for an end to U.S. business involvement in South Africa.
