This brochure quotes from a joint statement by the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Albert Luthuli on December 10, 1962 (Human Rights day) in which they called for sanctions against South Africa. The brochure also includes the full text of an address by Dr. King on December 10, 1965 at Hunter College, New York City in which he advocating for international sanctions against South Africa. This benefit event was organized by the American Committee on Africa (ACOA). This document was reprinted by the Southern Africa Resource Center to use for organizing in Los Angeles as part of a National Day for South African Divestment in Commemoration of King. [Note: King’s 1965 speech was printed by ACOA soon after it was delivered and was later published as a brochure by the United Nations, on which this version was based.
