US ARMS FOR SOUTH AFRICA APPROVED IF FOR EXTERNAL DEFENSE

The press release says the State Department has just reintegrated is policy of approving the issuance of licenses for arms export to South Africa, provided they are "of primary importance to South Africa's defense against external aggression." The press release says applications for export of weapons or equipment normally used by police or other security units for the enforcement of apartheid are denied.
