Mailing to members of the Religious Action Network (RAN) about the death of Oliver Tambo, long-time President of the ANC (African National Congress), who died in South Africa on April 24. His passing is an occasion for rededication to the freedom struggle which absorbed his entire life. RAN members are invited to join in a National Memorial Service for Oliver Tambo on Sunday, May 16 at the Cathedral Church of St John the Divine; a leaflet about this service is enclosed. The mailing also includes a newspaper obituary "Oliver Tambo Is Dead at 75; Led Assault on Apartheid" by Bill Keller. The mailing discusses Nelson Mandela, Chris Hani, the South African Communist Party (SACP), the Youth League, Sharpeville, violence, the Soviet Union, sanctions, negotiations, and elections.
