The Steve Biko Memorial Committee was formed in Fall 1977 by a group of Black media people after the death of Steve Biko in police custody in South Africa. The main activity of the Steve Biko Memorial Committee was protesting the same of the South African gold coin the Krugerrand. The Steve Biko Memorial Committee worked with the Boston Coalition for the Liberation of Southern Africa on a picket and demonstration at the National Association of Broadcasters meeting in Boston to protest the advertising of the Krugerrand.
