The South Africa Freedom Action Committee (SAFAC) was founded in Los Angeles in November 1964. SAFAC worked to exert pressure on U.S. business and tourism with South Africa by pickets and sit-ins. SAFAC enlisted support from dockworkers to refuse to unload cargos of South African goods and entertainers to refuse to play in South Africa unless non-racial audiences could attend.
