National Movement for Earlham Divestment

Duration: 1987 or 1988 - Unknown, early 1990s
Location: Richmond, Indiana, United States

National Movement for Earlham Divestment (NAMED) was a student anti-apartheid group at Earlham College that campaigned to get the college to divest from companies doing business in South Africa. NAMED set up a system where people instead of donating to Earlham College donated to NAMED. If Earlham College divested by a certain time the money would go to the college. If Earlham College had not divested by that time the money would be donated to the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). Earlham College is a Quaker institution as is AFSC.
