The Ad Hoc Committee for Divestment from South Africa was formed in Spring 1985 and that summer changed its name to the Action Committee for a Free South Africa. The Action Committee for a Free South Africa was a student anti-apartheid organization at the University of Chicago that campaigned to get the University to divest from companies doing business in South Africa. The Action Committee for a Free South Africa was often referred to as the Action Committee for Divestment from South Africa and sometimes used the name Ad Hoc Committee for a Free South Africa.
