This button was apparently produced by the African National Congress Women's Section in the 1980s, possibly in Zambia. On August 9, 1956, about 20,000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950. The amendments extend passes to African women. The anniversary of the march became National Women's Day.
