This New York demonstration against the Gulf Oil Corporation in the early 1970s included, from far left, Barbara Barnes, Dick Leonard (with glasses), Melba Smith (behind), Dorsett Edmunds, and an unidentified woman. Gulf Oil Corporation was a major target of protest because of its exploitation of oil in Cabinda, Angola and its financial support for Portugal, which was fighting against an armed struggle for independence in Angola.
