Young members of some 90 members of an African Liberation Day demonstration against the South African government. The demonstrators marched to the home of South African Consul General Herman Martin. The young members held a sit-in on the steps of the South African Consulate. The demonstration was called in opposition to the racists apartheid policies of the South African government and to protest the presence of the South African Consulate in New Orleans. African Liberation Day events were first organized by the African Liberation Support Committee on May 26, 1972.  (Source: "Africa Apartheid Protest" by Dwight Ott, The Times-Picayune, May 25, 1975;  July-August 1975 issue Southern Africa magazine available on this website.)
