A register for the receipt of contributions from the public for "the victims of the policies of apartheid and racism in South Africa" was opened by Secretary-General U Thant in a ceremony held in the Economic and Social Council Chamber. Dr. Carl Soule of the United Methodist Office for the UN signing the register. The date is the anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre which occurred on March 21, 1960.
