Ecumenical Prayer Meeting in Empangani, South Africa. Anti-apartheid activists from around the world came to South Africa to serve as election observers in the period leading up to South Africa's first democratic election on April 27, 1994. Seen here are members of the Ecumenical Monitoring Programme organized by the South African Council of Churches, including both South African and international observers. Shown in this photograph is Prexy Nesbitt (far right) of the United States, Lonrenti Skosana (brown suit front row third from right) of Botswana, and Pastor Egil Hauge (in black clerical shirt second from left) of Norway.
