NO CHROME FOR BURNSIDE
The first shipment of chrome from Rhodesia imported under the Byrd Amendment, in violation of the mandatory United Nations embargo against Rhodesia, arrived at the port at Burnside, Louisiana. The predominately black International Longshoremen's Association refused to unload the cargo, but the ship was unloaded. Pictured here is a demonstration including members of the Burnside black community and students and professors from Southern University in Baton Rouge. The demonstration was organized by the Committee of Blacks Against Oppression. (Source: Southern Africa magazine, Vol, V, No. 4, April 1972)
