Boycott A+S, Smash Apartheid. Worker's Power.
Protest against the sale of the South African gold coin called the Krugerrand at Abraham & Strauss (A&S), a department store. The coin, sometimes made into Jewelry, was advertised by A&S. Demonstrators passed out leaflets saying "A&S wishes you a whites only Christmas." The campaign included local Brooklyn groups, the American Committee on Africa and WLIB, a black radio station which urged listeners not to buy the coins. A&S rapidly agreed to stop advertising Krugerrand jewelry and to halt all further purchases.
