Buttons made by MSU Southern African Liberation Committee during their 1978-1988 divestiture campaign and dates accomplished. The Sun Will Rise is the title of statements from the dock by Southern African political prisoners - IDAF.
The Southern African Liberation Committee (SALC) created this poster to celebrate the 1994 first democratic election in South Africa. It features the many campaigns SALC undertook in support of southern African liberation. Campaigns are represented by buttons that were made by hand at the time; the dates the campaigns were accomplished are also shown. They are: Divestment by Michigan State University - 1978. McGoff Off campaign - December 1984. Coke Boycott campaign - July 1986. Divestment by Michigan State University Foundation - December 1986, a material aid campaign for SOMAFCO (the ANC’s The Solomon Mahlangu Freedom College) [undated]. Milestones in the struggle are also represented: Independence of Zimbabwe - April 1980, Release of Nelson Mandela from prison - February 1990. Democratic election in South Africa - April 1994. Images of the individual buttons are also on this website with further explanation. Size: 11 x 17 inches.
