Bury Apartheid - Wall Street Demonstration

Some 300 people protest corporate investment in apartheid South Africa on June 16, 1980 on the anniversary of the Soweto uprising. Rev. Herbert Daughtry of The House of The Lord Church organized youth to march from Brooklyn across the Brooklyn Bridge. The demonstration was organized by the Ad Hoc Committee to Commemorate the Soweto Uprising. A partial list of sponsors include African National Congress of South Africa (ANC), American Committee on Africa (ACOA), Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), Clergy and Laity Concerned (CALC), Coalition of Labor Union Women, Coalition to Support the Liberation of Southern Africa, Concerned Citizens' Committee on Africa (CCCA), Episcopal Churchmen for South Africa, Freedomways Magazine, International Freedom Mobilization, National Conference of Black Lawyers, National Council of Negro Women, National Lawyers Guild. New Alliance Party, Sanctions Working Group, Southern Africa Committee, Southern Africa Refugee Relief Fund, Southwest Africa People's Organization (SWAPO), the United Methodist Office for the United Nations, the U.S. Peace Council, and Women for Racial & Economic Equality (WREE).
