List of 40 cities that have ended their sanctions against South Africa as of December 17, 1993. The report says several cities in Massachusetts, including Boston, Newton and Watertown, are dependent on a bill to lift their sanctions that must be adopted by the state legislature, which is expected before the end of December. The report says Berkeley’s policy restricting deposits in banks that makes loans to South Africa was adopted in 1979 by voter referendum and can only be lifted by another voter referendum.
