Press release announcing that opponents of U.S. investment in South Africa won a major victory; Harvard and Radcliffe graduates have elected five pro-divestment candidates to the Harvard University Board of Overseers. Two of the winners, Consuela Washington and Peter Wood, were nominated by petitions circulated by Harvard and Radcliffe Alumni/ae Against Apartheid. They join Gay Seidman who was elected last year. Three other new Overseers, author Frances Fitzgerald, U.S. Senator Albert Gore and former MIT President Jerome Wiesner, also have stated support for divestment from South Africa.
