[Dear Friends in the Coalition]

The mailing discusses possible new directions for the Coalition and a Steering Committee meeting in December. Four Coalition groups have asked what we should do to move the coalition forward. Also, an ad hoc group of six Coalition members and others discussed the future of the Coalition in November during the African Studies Association meeting. The consensus is that a steering committee meeting is needed soon. The mailing includes excerpts from responses to the October 11 mailing and the ad hoc meeting in Boston. [Note: The mailing was written by Ted Lockwood or Christine Root, staff of the Washington Office on Africa.]
