"The Steering Committee of the Southwide Conference to Stop South African Coal" discusses Tapson Mawere and Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and says a regional steering committee is tentatively scheduled for March 22 in Atlanta. "Summary of the Southwide Conference to Stop South African Coal" reports that three people chaired the conference (Debbie Broedel, Neal Woods and Malcolm Suber) and reports on presentations in the morning session by Bob Zellner of SCEF; Malcolm Suber of ALSC; and Tapson Maware, North American Representative of ZANU. The Summary document also reports on six proposals from groups and individuals: the Philadelphia Coalition to Stop Rhodesian Imports, Ken Lawrence and Eileen Whalen, the Atlanta African Liberation Support Committee, the Black Worker's Congress, the October League, and a group from the Birmingham Coalition to Stop the Coal including members from the Revolutionary Union. The main slogans adopted were: Stop South African Coal!; Stop All South African and Rhodesian Imports!; End US government, military, and corporate support to the racist regime of South Africa!; Unite to fight attacks on working people in South Africa and America: end apartheid in South Africa and racism in America!; and Self-determination for the African majority, dismantle the racist state.
